“Students should be taught to live with nature”

PUDUCHERRY: Speakers at a workshop on ‘The Art and Benefits of Developing Green Wealth’ stressed the importance of conserving nature, role of trees in protecting environment and ways to understand basic laws of nature.

The workshop, organised by Mother Theresa Post Graduate and Research Institute of Health Sciences on Saturday, looked at various facets of nature, changing environment and benefits of developing green wealth.

“Students should be taught to live with nature and understand the basic laws of nature. We should not interfere with another genetic pool unnecessarily as it will become detrimental to humans in the future and no amount of scientific knowledge will save us,” Director of Health Dilip Kumar Baliga said .

Man was the only creation who consumed a lot, taking most from nature thereby affecting fellow human beings and other living creatures. “There is a satisfaction point for God-given desires. But there is no saturation point for needs developed by man such as money and power. As a consequence, we are usurping nature’s resources, which will affect tomorrow’s society,” he said.

Species existing to the detriment of another species automatically become extinct over a period of time, he said, adding, “You need to succeed but at the same time give up more than what you gain.”

Orthopaedician M. Parthasarathy spoke on the art and benefits of developing green wealth, lessons learnt and laws of nature.

He highlighted aspects of plant kingdom, importance of tree plantation, conservation of nature’s resources and the laws of nature such as law of adaptability of nature to the students and staff of the institute.

Dean of the institute V. Balu stressed the importance of utilising education in daily life and said that efforts would be made to preserve plants and trees around the institute.
