JD(S) plans conference of Dalits, BCs

Special Correspondent

BANGALORE: Janata Dal (Secular) State unit president and the former Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy on Saturday said that his party was organising a conference of the oppressed sections, backward classes, Dalits, minorities, unorganised sector workers, farm workers, artisans and women in Koppal on January 17.

Mr. Kumaraswamy told presspersons that the conference had been planned on November 17 when the party held a party workers conference at Palace Grounds but had to postpone it following the announcement of byelection to the eight Legislative Assembly constituencies.

Koppal, he said, had been selected as it was centrally located in Hyderabad Karnataka and Mumbai Karnataka.

Some resolutions demanding steps for the welfare of these sections would be passed.

Mr. Kumaraswamy said that similar conventions would be held in Chitradurga or Davangere and Mysore.
