MANAGLORE: Another complaint has been registered in the city against two journalists of Kannada daily Vijaya Karnataka, a columnist and the directors on the charges of “spreading hatred” among people and “disturbing peace in society”. Mangalore North Police filed an FIR on January 2 based on a complaint by James Louis, vice-president of Bharathiya Crista Seva Sanghatane (BCSS). The accused are the editor of Vijaya Karnataka Vishveshwara Bhat, its Resident Editor in Mangalore U.K. Kumarnath, printer and publisher of Vijaya Karnataka K.R. Ramesh, columnist Pratap Simha and directors of Vijayananda Printers Ravi Dhariwal, Chinnan Das, Anand Sankeshwar, Bhaskar Das and Probal Ghoshel. The complaint said that the Bettale Jagattu column by Pratap Simha published on September 20, 2008 with the title Haagantha Helidavanu Yaava Bajarangiyu Alla was a “conspiracy to trigger hatred for Christians among the readers and to disturb peace in the society.” The case has been registered under section 153, 153 A, 153 b and 295 A read with section 34 of IPC. P.B. D’sa of Peoples Union for Civil Liberties accompanied the complainant to the station. Mr. D’Sa said the police inspector told them that he would investigate whether the article did create any negative ripples in society and also look into the reasons for the delay in filing the complaint against the Kannada daily.
