AHINDA urged not to hold sammelan

Staff Correspondent

Sahitya sammelan to be held in Chitradurga

Demand for a writer from BC to preside over

it rejected

Chitradurga: Many writers and scholars have urged the district unit of AHINDA (forum of minorities, backward classes and Dalits) to drop its plan to organise a parallel Kannada sahitya sammelan here.

The 75th Kannada Sahitya Sammelan will be held here from January 29 to February 1.

It is learnt that writers Devanoor Mahadev, Baragur Ramachandrappa, Kale Gowda Nagawara, D.S. Nagabhushan, K. Veerabhadrappa, Banjagere Jaiprakash and K.B. Siddaiah had written to B.T. Jagadish, working president of AHINDA district unit, urging him not to hold any parallel sammelan.

The issue came up at a recent meeting of the unit which had been demanding that a writer from Dalit or any backward community be made president of the sammelan. During the recent public meeting held by the district Kannada Sahitya Parishat to propose names for the presidentship of the sammelan, members from backward communities proposed the names of a few writers, including Baragur Ramachandrappa. However, the parishat selected L. Basavaraju. It rejected a proposal by the district unit to select writer Chidanandamurthy.

Expressing its ire, the AHINDA unit recently announced that it would organise a parallel sammelan here.
