NEW DELHI: Hindustan Club earned a hard-fought 1-0 win over City Club in a Group ‘B’ preliminary league match of the Delhi Soccer Association annual senior division open clubs championship at the Ambedkar Stadium here on Saturday. Inside-right Sovan capitalised on a rebound from City goalkeeper Mohsin Khan and scored the winning goal for Hindustan in the 27th minute. In an ill-tempered encounter, referee Hari Chand showed yellow cards to Hindustan’s Abhishek and City’s Sohrab Khan and Anup Dutta. Later, Sovan and Anup were given marching orders following a violent incident in the 65th minute. City got a golden chance to score the equaliser in the closing stages but Hindustan defender Manitombi cleared the ball from the goal-line. In a Group ‘A’ match, Sahafat-Ahbab Club registered its third straight victory to beat former champion Indian Air Force (New Delhi) 1-0. Tarsem Singh netted the goal for Sahafat-Ahbab in the 16th minute as IAF suffered its third defeat in a row. Sahafat-Ahbab’s Manoj Yadav and Virender Singh Bhakuni and IAF’s R P Sinha got yellow cards for rough play.
