Temple festival from January 9

KOCHI: The auspicious annual 12-day festival at Thiruvairanikulam Mahadeva Temple near Aluva during which the shrine of goddess Parvathy will remain open to devotees will begin on January 9.

The procession from Akavoor Mana carrying the “Thiruvabharanam” to decorate the goddess will start at 4 p.m. and reach the temple at 8 p.m. Following this, the sanctum sanctorum of the shrine of Parvathy will be opened marking the start of this year’s festival.

Addressing a press conference at the Ernakulam Press Club here on Saturday, representatives of the Temple Trust said that elaborate arrangements have been made to ensure smooth conduct of the festival, which is expected to host thousands of devotees from far and wide.

A 300-strong police contingent, including women personnel, supervised by the Superintendent of Police will be deployed at the temple during the festival. A police control room will function round the clock at the temple premises. In addition to this, 300 private security personnel will also be in service.

A fire force unit and a round-the-clock medical contingent led by the District Medical Officer would be deployed to meet any eventuality. Besides, the Temple Trust in association with Lakshmi Hospital at Ernakulam will keep ready another 24 hour-medical unit with an ambulance. Fort Kochi Revenue Divisional Officer, Aluva tahsildar, village officer, taluk supply officer, health inspector and a host of other officials would camp at the temple premises during the fest.Kerala State Road Transport Corporation will operate special services from its Perumbavur, Chalakudy, Angamaly, Paravur and Ernakulam depots. Jankhar service will be available for devotees at Vazahakulam and Maramppilly boat jetties. Distribution of aravana will be streamlined to avoid any hiccups.

Necessary steps have been taken to ensure drinking water availability.

Parking grounds have also been readied.
