Shimoga police in a tight spot

Special Correspondent

SHIMOGA: The “premature” disclosure on Friday by the Mangalore police of the arrest of two suspected terrorists seems to have put the Shimoga police in a tight spot.

Though it was not known as to what prompted the Mangalore police to do so, the “premature” disclosure of the news appears to have embarrassed the Shimoga police who were in Mangalore on Friday to arrest the two suspected terrorists.

The Shimoga police apparently did not want to disclose the news of the arrest until the interrogation of the suspected terrorists reached a logical conclusion.

Superintendent of Police S. Murugan refused to say anything in this regard on Saturday.

However, the Shimoga police are not prepared to confirm the arrest of the two suspected terrorists — Tairoz and Tousif — though they have been reportedly taken to an undisclosed place in Shimoga for the further interrogation.

Tairoz is said to be a native of Shikaripur in the Shimoga district.

Tairoz reportedly had given shelter and extended assistance to suspected terrorist Riyaz Bhatkal and others of the Indian Mujahideen who were reportedly involved in terror attacks in Gujarat, Bangalore and other places.

It is said that the names of Tairoz and his associates were revealed by Khayamuddin Kapadia, one of the main accused in the Ahmedabad terror attacks. Suspected terrorists and founding members of the Indian Mujahideen reportedly had visited Fairoz’s house in Shikaripur several times.
