No revenue collection from drought-hit areas

Raipur: The Chhattisgarh government has declared 33 tehsils in eight districts of the State as drought affected and stopped all revenue collection activities in these districts till further orders.

Agriculture Minister Chandrasekhar Sahu said on Saturday that the declaration was made on the basis of the report on scanty-rainfall in those tehsils by the revenue department. Meanwhile, senior officials with the revenue department informed that out of 33 tehsils, 9 tehsils fall under Rajnandgaon district, seven tehsil in Durg, four in Kawardha, two each in Raipur, Bilaspur, Mahasamund, four in Kanker and three in Bijapur district. They further added that the District collectors have been asked to start relief work in all those tehsils that have been declared drought affected and Rs 50 lakhs each has also been sanctioned for this purpose. - PTI
