Thiruvananthapuram: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said here on Saturday that zonal centres of the Centre for Development of Imaging Technology (C-DIT) would be established at Kannur and Ernakulam soon. Speaking after inaugurating the 20th anniversary celebrations of C-DIT, he said centre would start courses in cinema and TV production. Highlighting the activities of C-DIT over the years, he stressed the need for the centre to diversify its operations. “The centre registered a record growth of 100 per cent last year with revenues touching Rs.19 crore” Mr. Achuthanandan said the C-DIT had made commendable progress in providing technical support for Akshaya centres, promoting Free and Open Source Software, digitising land records and copies of old books, manufacture of holograms and holography research. He promised to consider a proposal to declare C-DIT as Total Solutions Provider for government departments. Mr. Achuthanandan also laid the foundation stone for a new building to house the Optical Image Processing division of C-DIT.
