President Pratibha Patil inspects the guard of honour at INS Dega, Naval Air Station, in Visakhapatnam on Saturday. VISAKHAPATNAM: President Pratibha Patil was briefed on the organisation, role and area of responsibility of the Eastern Naval Command (ENC) here on Saturday. She was in the city on a day’s visit to the operational command of the Navy. Later Ms. Patil accompanied by Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Mehta and Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of ENC Vice Admiral Verma, undertook a Harbour Cruise. She also visited a Naval Submarine and a Warship and was briefed on their functioning by the respective Commanding Officers. Ms. Patil visited the Ship Handling Simulator and other facilities at the Naval Dockyard. Earlier, she was received at the airport by Admiral Sureesh Mehta and Vice Admiral Nirmal Verma. Andhra Pradesh Minister for Energy, Coal and Minorities Welfare Shabbir Ali Mohammad, Mayor Pulusu Janardhana Rao, District Collector Sanjay Kumar and Police Commissioner N. Sambasiva Rao were present. A 150-men Guard of Honour, commanded by Lt. Commander Arindam Das, was presented to the President.
