Karwar: “In Indian culture, art and life are inseparable. Our life is in art. Hence we must preserve the local arts for the betterment of human life. The younger generation should act as the link between the modern world and Indian tradition,” Dinakar Shetty, MLA from Kumta, has said. He was addressing a gathering at the opening ceremony of the two-day “Kala Habba” (art festival) at Shantikamba grounds at Hegde village near Kumta. Haliyal MLA Sunil Hegde, who spoke at the festival, said the world was changing. After becoming a globalized economy, we were being exposed to various world cultures. In such a scenario, it was our duty to preserve our ancient art and culture. Now the time had come to preserve our culture, while accommodating all others, he added. We can now show the world the many art forms we have and for this the youth should serve as ambassadors. Zilla panchayat member Ashman Shanbhag, who presided over the festival, said it was appreciable that the local youth had arranged for the art festival to be held, thereby contributing to the development of local art.
