Congress MPTC members to form association

Correspondent

VIZIANAGARAM: Mandal parishad territorial constituency members of Congress have decided to form a separate association to cut TDP hold on them to size.

The MPTC members will meet at the Congress office here on January 6 to choose an ad hoc committee, according to I. Raghu Raju, district Youth Congress president and vice-MPP of S. Kota mandal.

Addressing a press conference here on Sunday, Mr. Raju said while the leadership headed by Babu Rajendra Prasad, MLC, had utilised MPTCs to settle his political agenda and picked holes in government welfare schemes, the Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy government announced honorarium for the members, appointed them on Indiramma committees and also involved them in various schemes.

At the meeting on January 6, the Congress MPTCs would form an ad hoc committee in the presence of M. Nagaraju, State convenor of Congress MPTCs Association. The election to the association would be held later.

Polls to be held

Prior to the State committee polls, elections to MPTCs associations in other districts would also be conducted.

The formation of a separate association would formalise a split on party basis in the MPTCs Association.

It may be recalled that on the directive of Minister for Housing Botcha Satyanarayana, sarpanches, owing allegiance to Congress, had formed a separate association in September last year in the district.

M. Sridhar, MPP of Gajapathinagaram, and others were present at the press conference.
