SIRSI: V.S. Patil, Yellapur MLA, has urged the youth to preserve the rich cultural heritage of the State. He was speaking after inaugurating the Sirsi taluk-level youth festival on Saturday on the premises of the higher primary school here. The festival was organised by the Youth Service and Sports Department, Uttara Kannada Zilla Panchayat, Sirsi Taluk Panchayat, Kangod Gram Panchayat, Sirsi Taluk Yuva Okkuta and Swastik Sports Club of Ajjibal. ConcernZilla panchayat member G.N. Hegde Muregar expressed concern that not many youth were participating in the youth festivals these days. Sadanand Bhat, taluk panchayat member, said that a new youth policy to rejuvenate the youth festival was under State Government’s consideration. The youth, who bagged awards in youth festivals, should be given opportunities in the State-sponsored Kadambotsava and Karavali utsav, he said. Sirsi Taluk Panchayat president Shivram Shetty, who presided over the function, said more grants should be sanctioned to youth festivals.
