Shimla: Taking a cue from Kerala in promoting health tourism, Himachal Pradesh government has decided to promote ayurvedic treatment ‘Panchkarma’ on a wider scale to woo tourists. Panchkarma is an ayurvedic treatment which includes body massage and steam bath. State Health Minister Rajeev Bindal, who returned from a tour of Kerala recently, has directed the ayurvedic department in the state to prepare a proposal for popularising the same in Himachal Pradesh, Director Ayurvedic Department R S Gupta said on Sunday. Mr. Gupta said as part of the plan, in addition to seven ayurvedic hospitals where Panchkarma facility is available in the state, 20 more hospitals would be added to the list. The department has also decided to provide technical know-how to private players to start Panchkarma services in the government-run and private hotels. The department also plans to send 20 doctors from the state to Kerala for training.- PTI
