Resignations rock the KCA

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Resignations continued to rock the Kerala Cricket Association for a second day running when two of its functionaries from Kannur on Sunday announced their intentions to quit their membership from the sub-committees in which they were members.

The resignations come in the wake of the First Information Report and the case registered against over 80 persons, all connected with the KCA, by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau on Friday. On Saturday, the KCA treasurer, A. Salim had tendered his resignation from the post.

The two to submit their resignations on Sunday were Haroun Rasheed and T.A. Chackochan who were members of the KCA’s finance and the nets and coaching committees respectively. While Mr. Rasheed faxed his resignation directly to the KCA president, T.R. Balakrishnan, Mr. Chackochan, being away in Ananthpur, texted his intention to resign.

Moral responsibility

Speaking to The Hindu from Kannur, Mr. Rasheed said he was stepping down owning moral responsibility for the crisis that has come to grip the KCA. He said that he had been toying with the idea for some time now as the KCA’s principal office-bearers never took the various sub-committees into confidence.

Meanwhile, there was still no official word from the KCA, especially on the subject of Mr. Salim’s resignation which has led to a standstill on all the activities of the Association.

However, sources said that a decision to convene an emergency meeting of either the Central Council or a special general body to discuss Mr. Salim’s resignation and to appoint a replacement for him would be taken in a day or two.
