CUTTACK: With general elections a few months away, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is in a touring spree across the state to lay foundation stones of new projects. Mr. Patnaik on Sunday laid foundation stones of at least half-a-dozen projects in Cuttack district under Choudwar and Cuttack sadar Assembly constituency. Mr. Patnaik first laid the foundation stone of Rs 28.25 crore-bridge over Kathjodi River near Kaijanga at Chanduli Mirzaipur under Cuttack Sadar segment. The Chief Minister later went to Choudwar Assembly segment where he laid the foundation stone of Damdamani, Baikund irrigation projects, a drinking water and market complex at Agrhat and two godowns in the same locality. He later addressed a public meeting at Shankarpur. Cuttack MP Bhatruhari Mahatab, MLAs Pravat Biswal and Dharmananda Behera, Athagarh MLA Ranendra Pratap Swain and Minister Devi Mishra accompanied the Chief Minster during his visit. It may be mentioned here that the Rs 5.63 crore Damdamani medium irrigation project under Choudwar Segment for which the foundation stone was laid on Sunday was a project waiting for completion for the last nine years. The earlier Congress government in the state had first laid the foundation stone of the project in 1999 when it was estimated to complete the project at a cost of Rs 1.50 crore.
