Bhopal: Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan on Sunday said that people of Bhopal will get water from Narmada in next nine months.

“People of Bhopal will get Narmada water by September 25,” Mr. Chauhan said while launching the campaign for deepening of the drying upper lake of Bhopal, which is a major source of water in the state capital.

A major portion of the lake dried up due to the less rainfall in the last monsoon forcing Bhopal Municipal Corporation to supply water on alternate days.

The corporation has launched the campaign “apna sarovar apni dharohar, bada taal sanrakshan abhiyan” (upper lake conservation campaign) with the people’s cooperation.

Mr. Chauhan said that people and the government have to take all possible measures to save each drop of water.

Besides this, government will also undertake campaigns to conserve drying up ponds and other water sources in villages.

The Chief Minister along with his wife, Sadhna, began the campaign by digging up the dried portion of the upper lake near Takia island to which people can reach on foot.

Large number of people belonging to all walks of life took part. - PTI
