Awards

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Gulf-based entrepreneur Ravi Pillai has been chosen for this year’s V. Gangadharan Memorial Trust Award and noted TV personality Prannoy Roy for the 2008 Thoppil Gopalakrishnan Award for excellence in journalism. Announcing the awards here on Sunday, Culture Minister M. A. Baby said the awards would be given away at the ‘India One’ Festival being organised at Kollam later this month.

He said Parvati Menon, chief of bureau, The Hindu, Bangalore, and Mumbai Mirror photo editor Sebastian D’Souza would be presented with special jury prizes at the function. Ms. Menon has been chosen for the prize for her expose of the rape of a nun during the Kandhammal attacks on Christians by Sangh Parivar activists and Mr. D’Souza for his photos of Mumbai terror attackers.
