Wagons, track damaged in blast

Special Correspondent

Guwahati: Three wagons of a goods train were damaged when a bomb exploded on a bridge between Harangajao and Mailongdisa stations in Assam’s North Cachar Hills district on Sunday morning. About 40 metres of the track was also damaged in the blast. There was no casualty.

Police suspect it to be the handiwork of the outlawed Dima Halam Daogah (Jewel Gorlossa faction), also known as Black Widow.

Public Relations Officer of the Northeast Frontier Railway Jayanta Sarma said that one of the three wagons was carrying timber and the others were loaded with cement. The train coming from Badarpur was bound for Lumding.

Trains running through the affected section have been suspended. Mr. Sarma said the damaged portion of the track was expected to be restored by Monday morning.
