Dindigul to fight it out with Madurai

TIRUCHI: Last year’s runner-up Dindigul and Madurai entered the final of the State youth football championship, winning their semifinal encounters on shootout, here on Sunday.

With both the teams playing attacking football, the Dindigul-Tiruchi contest provided ample entertainment to the fans. Devarajan capitalised on a defensive error to put the host ahead in the 32nd minute.

Dindigul equalised through Jaffer Sadiq when his free kick grazed past the Tiruchi goal keeper’s glove to nestle into the top right corner of the net.

The scoreline remained the same till the end of the stipulated time and Dindigul won 5-3 on shootout.

In another semifinal fixture, Madurai edged Chennai 5-4 via one set of sudden death and tie-breaker, after the teams were locked 0-0 at the end of regulation. — Principal Correspondent
