Annai Youth holds AGORC

CHENNAI: Promoted-team Don Bosco Annai Youth forced a 3-3 draw against former champion AGORC in a well-contested match on Sunday in the St. Joseph’s-CFA senior division league at the Nehru Stadium.

Annai Youth had taken the lead in the 17th minute through L. Sashikumar’s header off a Reyaz Ahmed cross from the left flank. Ten minutes later it sat pretty with a 2-0 lead after I. Sakthivel capped a brilliant solo, cutting past a host of defenders and beating the onrushing Ramu with an angled shot.

As has been the pattern in AG’s play this season, a fightback was the response. Expectedly the focus was the fast moving D. Muthu as he helped Selvakumar to score (30th minute) first and then on his own found the target twice in the 35th and 54th minutes to put AG’s ahead for the first time in the match.

AG’s could have trooped out winner but for the indiscretion, past the hour, by defender Balashankar, who brought down the rival striker Jeribe in the danger area and conceded a penalty. A. Sudhakar made no mistake to level the score.

The Dollars and Pounds-Man of the match was D. Muthu. Both teams are on seven points each, AG’s completing five and Annai Youth six matches.

Earlier, Universal RC trounced Permbur Blues 7-0 in the first division. S. Charles, S. Sashikumar, K.J. Basha (two each) and K. Vadivelu were the scorers.
