Blueline buses kill three more

Bluelines claimed 151 lives in 2007, 111 in 2008


NEW DELHI: Killer Blueline buses claimed three more lives in separate accidents in the Capital during the past 24 hours.

A cycle-rickshaw puller was run over by a Blueline bus, plying on route 761, in Vikaspuri in the evening. The driver lost control over the wheel and hit the rickshaw puller, who sustained serious head injuries. The victim, who could not be immediately identified, was declared brought dead at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Hospital. The bus driver was arrested later.

An hour later, a 25-year-old man was crushed under the rear wheels of another Blueline in Adarsh Nagar. The bus was plying between Sultanpuri and New Seemapuri. The victim could not be identified till late in the night. “The accident took place when the victim was either crossing the road or getting down from the bus. The driver fled from the spot leaving behind the bus. A case of causing death due to rash and negligent driving has been registered against the driver,” said a police officer.

On Saturday evening, a 50-year-old cyclist was run over by a Blueline bus plying between Shahbad and Janakpuri. The accident took place on Pankha Road in Janakpuri when the victim, later identified as Shashi Bhushan, was on his way home. Shashi ran a cycle-repairing shop in the area. He was a native of Jharkhand. The bus driver, Sukhbir, has been arrested on charges of causing death due to rash and negligent driving.

According to Delhi police figures, a total of 111 people were killed in accidents involving Blueline buses in 2008. The killer buses had claimed 151 lives in 2007.
