Letters to the Editor
Israel's attack on Gaza has resulted in the death of hundreds of innocent civilians, including women and children. Gaza is left with nothing today - no bread, no oil, no electricity and no medicine to treat the injured. The criminal attack is an effort to break the Palestinians' struggle for freedom and justice. It is unprecedented and unacceptable. Israel would not have gone this far but for the silence of the international community over its inhuman acts. The world should stand up for justice and human rights and condemn the murderous aggression committed by Israel on the Palestinians. Syed Waris Shere, Ontario Is not the Israeli aggression against Palestine state terrorism? Will it not create conditions for acts of terrorism by the oppressed? The world community, which is working hard to tackle terror, should be wary of this aspect and restrain Israel. Manish Manglani, New Delhi The retaliatory attacks by Israel against Hamas may be disproportionate in the sense that it has killed more civilians than Hamas has. But it is also true that Hamas has killed fewer civilians not on humanitarian grounds but because it lacks the necessary wherewithal to inflict civilian casualties. Terrorism should never be excused, whatever the cause it supposedly furthers. It is the mindset of the critics of Israel that is prolonging terrorism in India. S. Rajagopalan, Chennai
