PUDUCHERRY: A IV standard student of Achariya Bala Shiksha Mandir A. Jenil came second in the State-level roller skating competition held on December 29 to 30 at Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School. The competition was conducted by Pondicherry Roller Skating Association. He has been selected for the national-level competition which would be held on January 16 in Chandigarh. P. Abinesh Kumar of Standard IV was ranked second in the 6 to 8 age group in the competition. N.B. Kanishka of Standard VI was ranked first and K. Praveen Raja of Standard IV came third. Camp outThe National Service Scheme of St. Patrick School organised a seven day special camping programme from December 20 to 26 on the theme “Healthy Youth for Healthy India” at Muthu Rathina Arangam Memorial Matriculation School, Kavundanpalayam. Founder Correspondent of St. Patrick School S. Regis and Correspondent of Muthu Rathina Arangam School Rathina Janarthanan took part in the function. Chairman of Oulgaret Municipality N.S.J. Jayabal distributed the prizes to the winners of various competitions at the valedictory function. The NSS unit also conducted a physiotherapy camp for senior citizens of Puducherry. Physiotherapist I. Selvam delivered a lecture on the significance of physiotherapy to the camp students. More than 50 persons attended the camp. Best projectAt Petit Seminaire Higher Secondary School, a project on “Nitrate Estimation in ground water in urban Puducherry” by V. Mugil of Class VII was one among the 23 projects selected at the 16th National Children Science Congress organised by the Government of Nagaland. A total of 565 projects from various states and union territories were presented and an expert committee selected 23 projects. Former President of India A.P.J. Abdul Kalam inaugurated the competition. The student received a gold medal and appreciation certificate from Yash Pal, Chairman of National Children Science Congress network. School Principal Fr. M.S. John Bosco congratulated the team leader Mugil and the members R. Calvin, R. Harish, K. Sathish Kumar and guide teacher Albert Jaclin. Taekwondo Federation of India conducted the 27th National Championship at Lucknow in which G. Birla of Class IX won the gold medal in the national-level event. State NSS Cell of Puducherry conducted the State-level poster competition on “Millennium Development Goals Themes” and A. Allan of Class XI of the school secured the third prize. In the same competition, Gokul, Amiroudha, Aravind, Mohd. Thaffeq, Shree Ram Adhitya, Gopinath, Mohd. Ashiq, Mohd. Sedhiq, Anbarasan Prassanna, Sabarish, Allan Rayalu, Archip John Ramesh, Arun, Aniruth, Tamizhamudhan and Venkatesh of Class XI received consolation prizes.
