The centre will have around 400 professionals The company has a large portfolio of patents KOCHI: Arbitron Inc inaugurated its fully owned subsidiary, Arbitron India, here on Monday. Arbitron is an international media and marketing research firm that has been serving the media — radio, television, cable, online radio and out-of-home — as well as advertisers and advertising agencies in the U.S. and Europe for 60 years. World-class facilityThe Kochi centre has been set up in Tejomaya, L&T’s IT park, inside Infopark, at Kakkanad. Inaugurating the centre, Steve Morris, chairman and chief executive officer of Arbitron Inc, said the Kochi centre had been set up as a world-class facility for software engineering, R&D and product development to support the company’s vision to serve the media and market research facility worldwide. Responding to the queries of presspersons during a media interaction, Mr. Morris said the world recession had started impacting the media business in the West and the media needed to be more accountable to retain its competitive edge. Operational supportHe said his company would play a key role for the development of technology and provide operational support for the implementation of Arbitron’s ambitious flagship service, the Portable People Meter (PPM), and other products being installed throughout the U.S. and other countries. Shilen Sagunan, managing director of Arbitron India, said the company was not in for volume recruitment but was hunting for the best talent. It would have around 400 professionals in the first two years of operation and would double the number by 2012. Arbitron had a large portfolio of patents and the work being done out of Kochi would complement it.
