Vigilance raid at KCA complex

Special Correspondent

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB), enquiring into the corrupt practices within the Kerala Cricket Association, on Monday raided the KCA complex here and seized vital documents and the hardware of the office computer.

The raid, which began soon after 11 a.m. continued for close to 12 hours, and was done by a team of six officers from the Thiruvananthapuram unit of the VACB on instructions from the inquiry officer and Ernakulam unit DySP, C.S. Majeed. The raiding team was headed by two Circle Inspectors, G.L. Ajith Kumar and Ujwal Kumar.

Though the officials remained tight-lipped on the seizure made by the team, it is understood that over 500 documents relating to the conduct of the India versus Australia and India versus England One-Day Internationals hosted by the KCA in Kochi on April 6, 2006 and October 2, 2007 were among those impounded.

The team also enquired about the documents relating to the conduct of the India versus Pakistan ODI, again in Kochi, on April 2, 2005 which the KCA a few weeks ago had submitted to the Income Tax department for verification.

None of the KCA officials was present at the KCA complex during the time of the raid and it was left to the KCA chief executive officer, Ramesh Kumar and chief finance officer, Rajendra Prasad, to comply with the requests made by the Vigilance officials.

The seized documents and the hardware of the office computer will be forwarded to the inquiry officers, officials said.

Meanwhile, there was no official word from the KCA either on the resignations of the treasurer, A. Salim or other officials. Likewise, there was also no word on the proposed special general body. Sources said it was likely that the general body to discuss the grave crisis and the sudden turn of events would be held either on January 10 or 11.
