KALPETTA: National Cadet Corps (NCC) cadets of SKMJ Higher Secondary School carried out a mock motor vehicle checking here on Monday to create awareness of road safety among the public. The programme was organised by the Motor Vehicles Department as part of the 20th Road Safety Week observance. R. Sukumaran Nair, Regional Transport Officer of the district, gave directions to the cadets. Instead of imposing fine as is done by traffic personnel, the children distributed pamphlets to the violators and advised them on safety. Mr. Sukumaran Nair said the department would start various awareness programmes in the district in connection with the safety week observance. Five Road Safety Clubs would be constituted in select schools and the department personnel would impart road safety norms to the children, he said. The programmes would be spread to other schools in the district with the help of these trained children.
