Labour outfits must defeat terrorism: Achuthanandan

Kasaragod: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan, on Monday, called for a greater solidarity among the working class to contain terrorism. He alleged that the U.S. was sponsoring terrorist activities the world over.

Mr. Achuthanandan was inaugurating the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) north Kerala zone yatra. “The gravest dangers being faced by the world today are terrorism and religious extremism as the U.S. is found to be sponsoring terrorist groups across the globe and the menace can only be checked with the coming together of the working class organisations in India,” he said.

The CITU had always opposed the economic priorities of the Congress-led government at the Centre that had taken away many of the privileges enjoyed by the workers in the country, he said.

The Left parties had pointed out the UPA government’s ‘anti-working class’ policies during the four years of outside support. He alleged that the country was being kept under the thumb of certain global monopolies and urged the CITU members to raise their voice against the emerging economic situation.
