Peacock deaths: probe ordered

Thrissur: The Vice-Chancellor of the Kerala Agricultural University (KAU) K.R. Viswambharan on Monday ordered an investigation by a five-member committee into unconfirmed reports about death of peacocks in the Cashew Research Station of the Kerala Agricultural University.

College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences Dean E. Nanu will head the committee. Its other members are N. Vijayan, professor of pathology, CVAS, Jim Thomas, professor of Entomology, College of Horticulture, Vellanikkara, P.O. Nameer, associate professor with the College of Forestry, Vellanikkara, and P. V. Wilson, KAU chief security officer.

‘15 peacocks dead’

Unconfirmed reports said that about 15 peacocks died after pesticides were sprayed in the plantations.

The Vigilance Court on Monday admitted a petition by social activist P.D. Joseph demanding a high-level investigation into the reported death of peacocks.
