SHIMLA: The body of a forest officer, Raman Kathlaik, posted as Deputy Range Officer with the Forest Department here, was found in a gorge near Dhalli forest over the weekend, a fortnight after he was reported missing from his home. The officer was called by some unidentified men one evening from his home and was kidnapped, said his wife Nirmal. The post-mortem report is yet to ascertain the cause of death but the bereaved family is alleging murder by some local youth. The police have rounded up a local businessman, Sanjeev Dogra, and his friends Ravikant and Kapil. They have been sent on a 14-day judicial remand. The police have registered a case under Section 364 of the Indian Penal Code on the complaint of the family. “Accidental death”Though the police are calling it an accidental death due to a fall, the family and friends of the forest officer are alleging murder. He was kidnapped, killed and then thrown into the gorge by liquor mafia active in the area, they added.
