CHANDIGARH: Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said over the weekend that his regime had spent Rs.3,355 crore on strengthening, widening and construction of roads and bridges during the past 45 months so that a better and improved infrastructure could be made available to the people. Speaking after inaugurating a railway over-bridge on the Bathinda-Delhi railway line constructed at a cost of Rs.18.37 crore in Rohtak, Mr. Hooda said eight such over-bridges had been constructed in the State so far while work on 20 more was in progress and eight more were in the pipeline. Two more over-bridges for Rohtak city would be ready by March-end. More fundsThe Chief Minister disclosed that the budget for the Public Works Department (B and R) had been increased from Rs.250 crore to 1,600 crore during past four years. Mr. Hooda said the Rs.3,000-crore Rajiv Gandhi Bridges and Roads Infrastructure Development Programme would be completed in three phases by March 2010. Work worth over Rs.2,000 crore had already been started in the State during the past year under the programme, he added. He also laid the foundation stone of five projects in Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak. He said his regime had earmarked Rs.431 crore under the Plan and non-Plan schemes to promote higher education and an additional Rs.500 crore would be also be incurred yearly to provide scholarship to the students belonging to poor sections. MDU Vice-Chancellor R. P. Hooda assured the Chief Minister that the construction work for all these projects would be completed within the next one year.
