The journey is 1,250-km-long They will stage plays en route BANGALORE: Dressed smartly in their track suits, the NCC cadets of the National College, Jayanagar, lined up next to their bicycles ready to begin their 11-day expedition to Bagalkot. A test of endurance, the annual bicycle expedition for the cadets is also an opportunity ‘to serve the nation’. On Monday, a 10-member cycling team started its 1,250 km journey from Bangalore to Badami, Bagalkot, and back. Staying at schools and ashrams, the cadets will average 80-90 km a day, meeting students of schools and colleges and performing street plays. While the message for tolerance is the focal point of the expedition, cadets will try to create awareness on other pressing issues. We will perform street plays and try to create awareness on the preservation of historical monuments as we will be visiting many sites such as Badami and Pattadakal,” says Manjunath D., a member of the expedition. His teammate Ananda Kumar says that through the distribution of pamphlets and delivery of speeches, they would also try to create awareness on the environment and ways to combat terrorism. The principal, Prof. K.M. Kodandarama Shetty, who flagged-off the expedition said: “Let love be the guide for all the work you undertake.” The expedition team has nine members of the 9th Karnataka Battalion Group ‘B’ Army Wing of the NCC, who have been selected on basis of endurance tests.
