BANGALORE: Dubbing the proposed Janata Dal (Secular) convention of oppressed classes to be held at Koppal later this month as a “political ploy’ to win the votes of backward classes, Dalits and minorities in the coming Lok Sabha polls, leaders of AHINDA have cautioned the people against “succumbing to the former Prime Minister H.D. Deve Gowda’s machinations”. At a press conference convened by Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Forum, Karnataka, in Bangalore on Monday, the AHINDA leaders accused the Janata Dal (Secular) supremo of “consistently opposing the uplift of backward classes” in his political career. Forum’s chairman B.S. Shivanna said that Mr. Gowda’s plans to hold a convention for the oppressed classes sounds ridiculous as the Janata Dal (Secular) leader had seen backward classes, Dalits and minorities as “untouchables”. He recalled that teh Janata Dal (Secular) Mr. Gowda was so much opposed to the AHINDA movement that he removed from the party the former Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the former Union Minister C.M. Ibrahim, besides former Ministers H.C. Mahadevappa and Satish Jharkiholi for attending AHINDA rallies.
