BANGALORE: Chief Minister B.S. Yeddyurappa met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi on Monday and reiterated his request to establish a National Security Guard (NSG) unit in Bangalore. According to a communiqué from the Chief Minister’s Secretariat here, Mr. Yeddyurappa emphasised the need to set up a NSG unit in Bangalore in view of the city’s global importance and the presence of vital installations. Responding to the Chief Minister’s request, the Prime Minister is believed to have assured Mr. Yeddyurappa that he would examine the request and advised him to raise the matter during the meeting of Chief Ministers scheduled to be held in New Delhi on Tuesday. Mr. Yeddyurappa, who will be participating in the meeting of Chief Ministers, is expected to raise the issues of terrorism, internal security and the need for granting a NSG hub for Bangalore. The Chief Minister also drew the attention of the Prime Minister towards providing facilities from the Union Government to develop the Kannada language, which was recently accorded the classical status. “The Chief Minister submitted two letters in the regard”, the communiqué said. The Chief Minister also met Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha L.K. Advani and apprised him about the success of the BJP in the recent byelections in the State and the party’s preparedness for the coming Lok Sabha polls. Later, in the night, he attended a meeting of NDA Chief Ministers.
