The Sabarimala pilgrims were from K.K. Nagar and Jaffarkhanpet in Chennai. The bodies were taken to Dindigul Headquarter Hospital for post-mortem.
The grievously injured, including four children – Jagadeeswari, Manigandan, Narendhran and Ganesh Balaji -- and three others, Kumar, Viswanathan and Ezhumalai, were admitted to two private hospitals in the town.
Three bus passengers, who received minor injuries, were treated as outpatients.
The front portion of the van was crushed. Eyewitnesses said the bus rammed into the van and dragged it for about 10 metres.
Fire services personnel with the help of local people rescued the injured and removed the bodies from the van.
The van was proceeding to Sabarimala from Chennai and the bus was coming to Palani from Kumuli.
