People’s lives caught in red tape, says Sarma

Staff Reporter

New academic wing of IMG’s Kochi Regional Centre opened

The three centres of the IMG across Kerala have been strengthened to impart training to all new government employees.

KOCHI: The Institute of Management in Government (IMG) can prepare a project on making the working of government offices quicker and to make the movement of files accountable, said Minister for Fisheries and Registration S. Sarma.

He said that the lives of lakhs of people continued to be caught in red tape and that institutions like the IMG should be able to help cut down the time taken in making decisions.

The minister was inaugurating the new academic wing of the IMG, Kochi Regional Centre, here on Monday.

K. Babu, MLA, who presided over the inaugural function, said that even the process of computerisation of government offices had not yielded the desired results and that people had not reaped the full benefits of the process of computerisation.

Mr. Babu said that the situation was such that even to make payments to the government, people had to stand in long queues while establishments like the Railways had made it possible to make e-ticket booking from homes.

Training programmes

Sebastian Paul, MLA, District Panchayat President P. S. Shyla, Thrikkakara pranchayat president Sabitha Kareem, district panchayat member M. E. Hassainar and Edappally block panchayat president Ikkoran Master were among those who offered felicitations at the occasion. IMG has its origins in the Kerala Institute of Public Administration (KIPA) of 1978 and is today engaged in helping make the administration of the State more efficient.

The three centres of the IMG across Kerala have been strengthened to meet the new directive to impart training to all new batches of government employees.

Ajay Kumar, Director, IMG, who welcomed the gathering, said that around 1,500 training programmes were being conducted annually by IMG. Several prestigious projects were being prepared by the institute.

The new academic wing of Kochi Regional Centre will have four faculty rooms, nine hostel rooms, three classrooms and related facilities.

The IMG is administered by a Board of Governors with representatives from the government, industry, and professional bodies. The president of the Board of Governors is the Chief Secretary to the government of Kerala.
