Bangalore: The Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Commissioner on Monday suspended Assistant Revenue Officer (Advertisement-East) Jagadeesh for awarding the contract for pay and parking allegedly without the permission from higher officers. The suspension order has been issued based on the report submitted by Puttaswamy, Additional Commissioner (East), who reported that Mr. Jagadeesh awarded the contract even though the latter was directed to “discuss” the matter. An inquiry into the episode will be conducted shortly, said Additional Commissioner (Administration) P.A Meghannavar. Congress demandMeanwhile, Bangalore City Youth Congress Committee on Monday demanded that the BBMP should not take any decision on re-introduce pay and parking system till the elected body assumes the office. A delegation of the committee, led by the former mayor Ramachandrappa, submitted a memorandum in this regard to BBMP Administrator Dilip Rau. The committee said that the pay and parking system was withdrawn by an elected body in public interest in 2006. However, temporary permission granted by the East zone of the BBMP to a person to collect parking fee on some streets has now resulted in collection of illegal parking fee by unscrupulous persons even though the BBMP has withdrawn the temporary permission granted during last week. The delegation urged the Administrator to withdraw the proposal sent to the State Government seeking its permission to reintroduce roadside pay and parking system by inviting general tenders instead of engaging associations of various business establishments.
