Know your property tax at the click of a mouse

Team from NIC develops software in five days

System will mention tax amount along with the 24 per cent cess


Bangalore: Now Bangaloreans can calculate at the click of a mouse the property tax that they have to pay.

Just log on to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s website www.bmponline.org and click on the link “property tax calculator.” You will enter a window called “Palike — the property tax calculator.” Then click on to the list of zones depending upon where you reside. Click on the link “residential and vacant land calculator” after finding out in which zone your property is situated.

This will take you to the calculator containing different fields. Here you have to chose the category of your property depending upon type of construction and nature of property, then select the zone. Also fill the information like exact year of construction, built up area in square feet (in case of buildings), measurement of site in case of vacant land depending upon whether they are tenanted or self-occupied.

Then click on the link “submit.” Within seconds, you get another window containing details like Gross Unit Area Value (UAV), Net UAV, depreciation and property tax one has to pay.

If you have added built up area in different years then you have submit details of building along with the built up area based on year of construction. There is also provision to calculate tax for area earmarked “closed parking area.”

Finally you have click the link “click here for details” which will give you total property tax one has to pay along with the 24 per cent cess.

BBMP Deputy Commissioner U.A. Vasanth Rao said the team of National Informatics Centre (NIC), Bangalore, comprising its Deputy Director-General A. Venkatesan and technical staff R. Venkatesh, Chandrakala S. Bhat and S. Sreekumar took just five days to develop and test the software for property tax calculation after the BBMP made available UAV and other data based on zones and other information.

Meanwhile, property owners of non-residential properties will have to wait for online calculator facility as it will take another week for developing software due to involvement of various types of classifications within the non-residential category, BBMP officials said.
