‘Police should develop rapport with people’
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: The Former Adviser to the Governor P.K.H. Tharakan has said that police should pay more stress on developing rapport with people and be aware of the developments in the neighbourhood.
Speaking on “How can India avoid another 26/11” at the Rotary Club of Bangalore on Monday, Mr. Tharakan said the police should be in contact with people and there should be emphasis on community policing.
People, he said, should keep their eyes and ears open and inform police about suspicious movements in their locality. “If somebody had seen the movement of the perpetrators in Mumbai, the terrorist attack could have been prevented,” he said.
Strategy
Mr. Tharakan, who was also the Chief of Research and Analysis Wing, said the Indian Government should work towards convincing Pakistan and make it realise that it will be better for both countries to act against terrorism. Pakistan too has been suffering under terrorist attacks, he said.
