125 Puthiya Tamizhagam workers arrested

Another angry group: Workers of Puthiya Tamizhagam Party staging a demonstration near the Collectorate on Tuesday.

KRISHNAGIRI: One hundred and twenty-five workers of the Puthiya Tamizhagam Party (PT) were arrested in Krishnagiri on Tuesday.

They were arrested when they tried to lay siege to the collectorate. Their demands included retrieval of Panchami lands, cent per cent prohibition and others.

All of them were taken into custody and kept in a marriage hall until the evening.

Krishnagiri taluk police inspector Kathirvel told that arrest was a preventive measure after the party workers defied the police orders.

More than 150 members had assembled near the collectorate. The police blocked the collectorate road with vehicles as a preventive measure. More than 100 police personnel were pressed into service to avoid any untoward incident.

People were not allowed to enter the complex without an ID proof and frisking by the police. Krishnagiri deputy superintendent of police M. Murugesan led the police team.

PT District Coordinator A. Madhesh presided over the agitation.

Party workers raised slogans against the Adi Dravida Welfare Department.

The workers alleged that the district administration had failed to provide any basic amenities to them.

They were allotted land by the collectorate behind its campus, but without any amenities.

They alleged that though the panchayat president took steps to build 18 row houses, only six houses were built so far.
