KRISHNAGIRI: Training programme for volunteers of Child Friendly Village Scheme from Krishnagiri Union began here on Tuesday. The programme was organised jointly by UNICEF and the district administration. The scheme is being implemented in all the villages in the district. About 200 volunteers took part in the programme. AimThe main aim of the programme is to make the volunteers more effective. UNICEF coordinator P. Ganeshamurthy told that in each panchayat 20 volunteers are working for welfare of the villagers. They sensitise the villagers about building toilets, access to safe drinking water, identifying the dropouts and bringing them to nearby schools and advising pregnant women to go to hospitals for deliveries. The volunteers assemble at the Village Level Convergence Committee (VLCC) meeting on first Friday of every month at the panchayat office and discuss the problems of the public with the representatives of the local bodies.
