This Day That Age
A declaration on the rule of law which may be called the ‘Delhi Declaration’ is expected to be evolved at the end of the five-day session of the International Congress of Jurists which opened in New Delhi on January 5. The declaration, according to a spokesman, will define the concept of the rule of law and the respective roles of the Legislature, the Executive, the Bar and the Judiciary in relation to the rule of law. The 150 judges and jurists from over 50 countries attending the Congress, after this morning’s plenary session, divided themselves into four committees to discuss a working paper on the rule of law evaluating the results of a two-year inquiry instituted by the International Commission of Jurists.
