Congress supports court view on CBI
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: The Congress on Tuesday said it agreed with the Supreme Court observation that the CBI should not become an instrument of the government.
Reacting to the court’s strong remarks on the CBI’s flip-flop over the investigation agency’s decision to change its stand in the disproportionate assets case against the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mulayam Singh, Congress media cell general secretary Veerappa Moily said the party did not dispute the court’s observation.
“We do not want the CBI to become an instrument of the government and neither do we want to influence its functioning. We believe in its autonomy and independence,” Mr. Moily said.
