Rs. 29 cr. for khadi products

Staff Reporter

BHUBANESWAR: Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) chairperson Kumud Joshi on Tuesday said Rs. 29.46 crores had been sanctioned for Orissa to implement projects worth Rs. 100 crores.

Addressing a press conference here, Ms. Joshi said employment opportunities for 24554 persons would be created through setting up 2,455 units within the next three months.

“Project cost may be doubled for Orissa next year by looking into past good track record in Rural Employment Generation Programme earlier and now Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme,” she said.

Ms. Joshi said against given target of 737 units, State office of KVIC had already received about 2000 applications.

These proposals were at several stages as per the PMEGP guidelines.

Ms. Joshi said focus of KVIC would be on research and attracting younger generation for making a career in the sector.
