‘Disabled’ stage dharna

Staff Reporter

SANGAREDDY: Demanding the officials to issue certificates, hundreds of physically-challenged persons on Tuesday staged dharna before the government hospital for more than one hour blocking the traffic on the main road. Police and officials had a tough time to get them convinced to withdraw the agitation.

Not knowing about the administrative decision to hold camps at mandal level to identify the physically-challenged , hundreds of them arrived in Sangareddy on Tuesday, as this being first Tuesday in the month, the designated day on which the certificates are issued. Only after coming to the town they came to know about its cancellation. Though, the administrative sources claim that the change wasmade public few days before, through the media.

Irate over thewaste of time and administration’s failure to inform them about the change in time, scores of Physically-challenged persons held a dharna in front of the government hospital. Hospital superintendent Dr. Sridhar and Sub-inspector Sridhar Reddy persuaded the agitators to give up the agitation with the assurance that the mandal level camps would be held from next week to identify the Physically-challenged persons and issue certificates determining the percentage and nature of the disabillity through doctors’ examination.

The officials claimed that the abrupt cancellation was to ensure ineligible people from getting the certificates issued because their inflow was growing. They also assured the agitators that the dates of the test camps would be informed to them well in advance.
