Staff Reporter

Thiruvananthapuram: The Museum police have arrested four persons on the charge of attempting to commit theft.

The suspects were, Malayan Dileep, Chirayankeezhu Binu, Azhoor Mukesh and Vineesh of Bund Colony, Thekkummoodu.

The police said an iron crowbar, of the type used for prying open doors and windows, was found in the possession of the suspects. They said the accused were found lurking in a by-lane near a sea food restaurant at Vazhuthacaud early on Tuesday.

Malayan Dileep was an accused in several cases, including the rape of a fisherwoman in the Medical College police station limits in 1996.

Mukesh and Binu are facing trial in connection with the murder of a middle-aged man who worked as security guard for a bar hotel at Chirayankeezhu.

They were also being investigated in connection with the theft of gold ornaments weighing 544 sovereigns.

The youth were produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody for a period of 14 days, the police said.
