Bangalore: Minister for Excise, IT and BT Katta Subramanya Naidu on Tuesday directed the authorities to take steps to clean vacant sites, mainly in the newly added areas and take action to levy cleaning charges on the site owners. The Minister gave this direction while reviewing the progress of various development works taken up by government agencies in the Assembly constituencies of the Bangalore North. The problem of sites which have not been kept clean by the owners was raised by several MLAs and MLCs while pointing out that uncleared sites were causing health problems, posing snake menace and acting as hiding place for anti-social elements during night. Mr. Naidu asked the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Bangalore Development Authority (BDA) to take steps clean the vacant sites while also ensuring proper street lights in the new areas, which are witnessing more theft cases. The Minister directed the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to take steps to supply water to the newly added areas as summer is fast approaching. While BDA said that tender processes were on for the development works, which were entrusted to it, in the new areas, the BWSSB said that feasibility study was on for its proposals to supply drinking water to the new areas from various tanks by setting up treatment plants. The BBMP officials said that efforts are on to complete many storm water related projects before the next monsoon.
