Sanjay, an accused, being taken away by the police after his arrest in Noida on Tuesday. NEW DELHI: In a swift action, the Noida police have arrested five young men who along with five others allegedly abducted a 22-year-old MBA student and criminally assaulted her on Monday evening. A hunt has been launched for their accomplices. The victim is a resident of South Delhi. The girl was on her way back home in a car along with her boyfriend after shopping at The Great India Palace mall in Sector 18 of Noida, when the 10 young men on three motorcycles waylaid the duo around 5 p.m. The victim’s boyfriend, who is studying MBA in the same institute in which she is a student, told the police that the group accosted them as they were negotiating a turn near a secluded drain in Sector 39. “The two had barely travelled a kilometre from the shopping mall when the accused intercepted them. The men were carrying cricket bats and wickets. They got down from their motorcycles and got inside the car. While one of them sat at the wheel, the others beat up the girl’s friend and drove the vehicle to a secluded spot,” Superintendent of Police (City) Ashok Tripathi said on Tuesday. The men, all in the 18-25 age group, allegedly took turns to criminally assault the girl. Before letting off the two late in the night, the men took away their mobile phones. 6 police teams formed“The victim reported the matter to the police at 1-30 a.m. Tuesday and a case was registered at the Noida Sector 39 police station. We constituted six police teams and launched a hunt for the boys. Since they were all carrying cricket equipment, it made our job that much easier. The accused were arrested at Garhi Chaukhandi village within hours of the incident being reported to the police,” said Mr. Tripathi. “Primary medical tests have not indicated any internal injuries to the victim. She will, however, be made to undergo more tests,” he said. The accused told the police that they were returning home after taking part in a cricket tournament in Bulandshahr when they spotted the girl and her boyfriend sitting inside their car parked by the roadside. A case has been registered under Sections 376 (rape), 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery) and 342 (wrongful confinement) of the Indian Penal Code.
