State Bank of Hyderabad qualifies for super league

HYDERABAD: State Bank of Hyderabad (SBH) recorded a solitary goal win over South Central Railway (SCR) to qualify for the super league of the SAAP Budweiser premier league football championship at the Gymkhana grounds, here on Tuesday.

The match-winner came in the 16th minute when striker Mohd. Fareed found the target. The other five teams which qualified for the super league are SCR, Bharat Dynamics Ltd, Hyderabad Globe, EME Centre and AOC Centre.

Sandeep shines

A century by Sandeep Bhalerao 129 (18x4, 4x6) helped Secunderabad Club record a 32-run win over St. Mary’s in the ‘A’ division league cricket championship match here.

Easy for Cross Wings

Cross Wings scored an easy 4-0 win over Nuclear Fuel Complex in the ‘B’ division hockey league championship at the Gymkhana grounds here.

Centre-forward Manikanta struck a brace, while right-out Srikanth and left-in Anshu netted one goal apiece for the winner.

Hockey selections

The Ranga Reddy District Hockey Association will organise selection trials for men and women on January 8 at the Vignan Prabodhananda Prashanti Niketan (Ghatkesar) from 7.30 a.m. to pick the district teams for the senior inter-district men’s championship to be held in Nalgonda from January 17 to 20 and for the women’s inter-district meet in Kadapa from January 15 to 18.

Kiran qualifies

C. Kiran Yadav is the only wrestler from Andhra Pradesh to have qualified for the Jharkhand National Games in the Greco-Roman 120kg and above category, A. Narsing Rao, Secretary, APWA, said. Kiran won a bronze in an Asian championship held recently.

Cricket tournament
