The Aligarh Muslim University Teachers’ Association has passed a unanimous resolution condemning the Israeli strikes on Gaza. “Palestinians have every right of independence and respectable life, which Israel with the help of its Western supporters is ruthlessly denying to them. The AMU teaching community shares the shock and surprise on the considered silence and inact ion of the powerful nations of the world on Israeli savagery and crime of killing so many civilians,” noted Qazi Ehsan Ali, honorary secretary of the Association. The AMU faculty has demanded that the United Nations take immediate action against these attacks on Palestine and a ceasefire be enforced without any delay. As the first such initiative in South Asia, the network has generated much interest among scholars and already boasts of more than 180 members,” says Pratiksha Baxi, assistant professor at the centre. “The LASSnet community has so far been interacting through virtual spaces like our blog (lassnet.blogspot.com). Over 160 participants are coming over to attend the conference,” she adds. Eminent scholars like Prof. Rosemary Coombe, Prof. Upendra Baxi, Prof. Sheila Jasanoff, Prof. Marc Galanter and Prof. Veena Das are expected to attend the event starting on Thursday.
